If I have learned anything from living up north the past few years, it is that you don’t “get use to” the cold weather, you just learn tricks to bundling up the right way. I have gone through many coats that although they are cute, do nothing at all for my warmth. That is why I was so ecstatic when I found this Roxy jacket- it is TOASTY!

One of the many places I was excited to go to this winter was a Christmas Tree Farm. They are few and far between in Texas, and I was overjoyed when I realized I would get to experience one this year.
From the scent of pine needles, to the crisp winter air that fills the farm, I was in heaven. Like I said in one of my Instagram posts, I am a Christmas fanatic. The happiness and joy on everyone’s faces during the season makes me smile constantly.
As we wandered around the tree lots, finding hot chocolate signs, sheep, dogs, wreaths, chicken, kind families and joyful owners, we realized how thankful we were for places like these. The calm settings that let you soak up time outside with ones you love are my favorite kind.
These two little guys cracked me up- they moved their heads at the same time and could not stop watching the dogs run around the farm.
Like I said, winter is all about bundling up. As it drops in the single digits, I always use to get so flustered when trying to figure out what to throw on. After living here for a while I have learned a few tricks, LAYERS, LAYERS and MORE LAYERS! Plus, always making sure your extremities are covered and warm. People doubt hats, gloves and scarves, but they are the magic makers!
After living here in Ohio and in NYC, I have become a hat lover. If my head is warm, I will be so much warmer. I love this pom beanie, this one, this one and this super cute one. I’m going to Colorado in January for MLK weekend with Russ and I am already planning on which hat to add to my collection.
If you are headed somewhere chilly for the holidays, whether it being skiing, NYC, or a cabin up north, do not forget your gloves and scarves! Your freezing little fingers will thank you for bringing them with. I’m loving these touchscreen gloves, this super warm scarf and these insulated mittens.
Most importantly, bring a great coat! A heavier coat that will keep you warm is completely worth the investment. A silly, but very accurate way to test the warmth of a coat out is to try it on and wear it for 5 minutes or so inside and see if you are sweating. If you can go a long time wearing it in a 70 degree house, than it is probably not warm enough! I put this Roxy Coat on inside and was way too hot very quickly. I love this jacket for casual cold days, this one for not as chilly days and these coral and floral ones for skiing.
I’d love to know what fun winter outings you have planned for this year! Stay warm and drink hot chocolate- it cures all chilliness!
