Italy…it’s no secret that I adore the whole country and love any time I may get over there. However, there are a handful of places in Italy that truly have my heart more than others. For me, I love leisurely towns that have beautiful views, history, calm culture and great food. But, I also love being on the go in the towns. So I love places that have time for adventure and possibilities for stories to be made. Here are my 5 favorite Italian towns (places).
1. Florence, Italy
Okay you’re right…I am biased. I lived in Florence for 6 months and loved the culture of the town so much. If you want a museum filled day, you’ve got it. But if you’re looking for a laid back food and cafe day, you’ve also got it. The romance of the town makes my heart happy. Plus, the shopping isn’t bad either. There is something about the small town, but big city feel that makes me feel at home. I will forever find any reason I can to go back.
2. Cinque Terre, Italy
GO. That’s all I’ve got to say. Out of my 5 favorite Italian towns, this would be my favorite for adventure. The Cinque Terre hike, cliff jumping, rock jumping, and swimming are memories I will have forever. I dream of going back and reliving it all over again. The pesto pizza and fruit with gelato are incredible. It’s a little bit out of the way from other places, but I think the 24 hours are so worth it. If you can get an Air Bnb or hotel there, I think 48 hours would be amazing too.
3. The Tuscany Countryside
San Gimignano is one of the many towns in the Tuscany countryside I love. However, you really cannot go wrong. Find a cooking class or a wine tasting you love and experience the calm atmosphere and exquisite views that come along with the location. I also went horse back riding in Tuscany and had a blast (I also got bucked off my horse…but that’s for another day). There are a lot of resorts in the hills that you cannot go wrong with.
4. Polignano A Mare
Before my most recent trip, I would have never ever thought of putting this location on the list of my 5 favorite Italian towns. But, after visiting this past May, I can’t speak more highly of it. The city itself is quaint and honestly a hidden gem. This is my guide if you want to learn more! It’s where the Red Bull cliff diving competition is every year and the location of the infamous packed beach between cliffs. The Puglia region is further down the coast, but a trip I think is worth it.
5. Capri
I think many people would put Positano it this spot, however, I love how quite Capri can feel. You can have your own beach days, cliff jumping, hiking, and meals without the traffic of people constantly surrounding you. I love street music so much and when you walk around at night in Capri you can always hear it. I end up twirling and dancing around every time. The magical feeling of this location is just something you can’t get anywhere else. I always tell people it feels like I am in the avatar movie. An island that truly feels like it is not real.
