My health journey has been anything from perfect. I will be the first to admit that. However, I have been working really hard to make sure I create a lifestyle that will make healthy habits a top priority forever. I set goals for myself this year and considering we are now half way through the year, I wanted to take a step back and check in on them. From getting in better shape to fueling my body with better food, I would say overall, my healthy habits have been created and cultivated for the most part. Granted, I do love vacation, sleeping in and eating ice cream sometimes, but it’s all about control. Below are the 5 healthy habits that I told myself, no questions asked I need to be a champ at. They are not hard, but on busy days it can feel exhausting. However, you owe it to yourself to stay on track! You’ll love yourself way better that way. I am going to tell you the same things I tell myself. Some harsh, but needed.
1. Move Your Body For 30 Minutes (Almost) Everyday
30 minutes? Easy peasy? Nope. Technically yes. Moving your body for 30 minutes seems like a small task. However, getting your butt to the gym everyday can be hard. Especially if you are busy, having fun and working hard. But, I urge you to just do something to move your body every day. Whether it’s the gym, volleyball, a walk, tennis, or a workout class, just get your heart rate up!
2. Stop Eating So Much Sugar
My enemy I didn’t know existed. I nibble here and there, but definitely don’t indulge non stop. However, when I took a step back and started to realize how many random office treats people brought it, candy from friend’s trips, alcohol, and juices I would consume, I tried to take a step back and it made a world of a different. My skin felt better, my energy wasn’t dipping high and low and most of all, I felt thinner and way less guilty than before.
3. You've Got To Stop Snacking...
This goes in a similar category, but it’s TRUE. Especially for those of us with desk jobs, office with unlimited snacks, baking skills, friends with baking skills, etc. But if you can create healthy habits with snacking, it’ll go a long way. Start by changing your snack craving to hummus and veggies or a fruit, then eventually change it to water when you think you need a snack. Turns out, you may just be thirsty! That was a big realization for me.
4. Get 7-8 Hours of Sleep Most Nights
Life isn’t always going to present itself with the opportunity for 7-8 hours of sleep, I get it. Plus, sometimes it’s fun to stay up and late and forget “health habits”. However, if you can try to get pretty good at getting sleep, you’ll be better at #1,2,3, and 5. It makes you nicer, smarter, more attentive and healthier!
5. Drink Way More Water Than You Want
They say you’re supposed to drink half your body weight in fluid ounces every day. On days you work out, you should be drinking even more. This is for sure my weakest of healthy habits. Honestly, I just forget a lot of the time. However, when I get into a really good routine of it, I have more energy, clearer skin, less stomach aches and less hunger. So it’s a win win if you put in the effort.
